Robert Louis Stevenson

RLSToday is the birthday of the author of some of my most loved books of excitement and adventure: Robert Louis Stevenson.

He is the writer of  Treasure Island, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Kidnapped. He is also the author of A Child’s Garden of Verses and The Wrong Box. The later of these I will confess to having never read but I did not remember until today, after looking it up, that the Garden of Verses was written by Stevenson.

I could write about who he was but best bet is for you to go to the Wikipedia article for that.

Suffice to say these things in order to celebrate this day:

Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest! Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum! Drink and the Devil had done for the rest! Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum!   –Treasure Island

All human beings….are commingled out of good and evil.   —-Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

For long ago, the truth to say,
He has grown up and gone away;
And it is but a child of air
That lingers in the garden there.

–A Child’s Garden of Verses
